- What has been the best piece of advice you have received?
There are no short cuts to success. Hard work, dedication and consistent commitment is the key.
- How important was nutrition to your success and performance?
In my day it was advised but it has become a much more important component in today’s game. Cricket has become faster and more demanding to the human body so correct nutrition is much more important.
- Please could you outline what a normal day of training involved?
Typically we would do a lot of core work and balance type training. We would also do a lot of shuttles and circuit type conditioning. There wasn't too much heavy lifting or lifting with Olympic weights like there is today.
- What advice would you give to anybody wanting to get fit and improve their health?
There are no short cuts to success. Hard work, dedication and consistent commitment is the key.
- What has been the highlight of your career?
Winning the Ashes in 2005 as England captain.
I would like to say a big thank you to Michael for taking the time and effort to answer these questions and sharing some of his experiences of competing at the highest level, it is much appreciated. In addition, I would also like to place on record my thanks to Matt Kay from Born2move for making this interview possible. Please see their website at www.born2move.co.uk.
I am sure this interview will provide a useful insight into the life of a professional sportsman and will help you to pick up some advice and tips that you can use to help you achieve your health and fitness goals. I have found it inspiring.
Thank you for your time and feedback. It is really appreciated.
