Chris Hanson Professional Golfer Interview
Introduction
The following is an interview with Chris Hanson, who is a professional Golfer. You can visit his website at www.chrishansongolf.com.
- What has been the best piece of advice you have received?
If you feel thirsty on the golf course it's too late, you’re dehydrated! Drink every three holes at least!
Also eat little and often.
- How important is nutrition to your success and performance?
Over the last year my performance has improved due to the organisation of my food and drink intake, prior too, during and after performance.
Doing the same thing every time I play, getting into good habits by consuming the correct food and drink.
- Please could you outline what you eat during a normal training day and then on a match day?
Day to day:
Very balanced and varied diet, treat myself when I want but work hard enough to burn it off.
Match Day:
Depending on start time...
Morning - Porridge with fruit and honey, pint water
During round - CNP flap jack bar throughout round, CNP gel bar, x2 bananas, sandwich (if playing through lunchtime) Large water, and CNP hydrate drink.
Evening - example: Pasta, garlic bread, water, water, water or Chicken, salad and potatoes!
- Please could you outline a normal day of training and what you do?
My normal day of training is mostly Technical Golf work but when I do put some fitness work into a day it would be either 35/40 min run + circuit training.
Always stretch, foam roll and Spikey ball body.
- What advice would you give to anybody wanting to get fit and improve their health
Keep it interesting, get into a habit of training but not into the habit of doing the same thing. Mix it up, run, bike, climb, circuit train or swim!
Trying new activities and different sports keep you motivated and is an easy way to achieve goals.
- From your experience, for instance pre-season training, have you got any tips on how to stay motivated when the training gets tough and challenging?
Set small achievable goals that make you feel good about yourself! Reward yourself for reaching these goals so that your driven on by new challenges you face. Always remind yourself of why you train - write it down so you can see your dreams and goals. I have them on my dashboard in the car.
- What has been the highlight of your career?
Winning the Europro Tour OOM in 2011 - and winning three times in that season.
I would like to say a big thank you to Chris for taking the time and effort to answer these questions and to provide an insight into his professional lifestyle, it is much appreciated. I am sure that it will provide a useful insight into the life of a professional sportsman and help you to pick up some advice and tips that you can use to help you achieve your health and fitness goals.
